David Amess, a member of the British Parliament, has died after being stabbed multiple times in a church in the south east of England on Friday.

The attack took place at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. The assailant walked into his constituency office and stabbed him multiple times.

Essex police said one person had been arrested following the incident and confirmed a man had died.(source)

“We were called to an address in Eastwood Road North shortly after 15:12.05 pm today (Friday, October XNUMX). We went to the spot and found an injured man. He was treated by the emergency services, but unfortunately died on the spot'the police said in a statement.

“A 25-year-old man was quickly arrested after officers arrived. He is suspected of murder and a knife was recovered. He is currently in custody. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”

The BBC reported that an air ambulance had been dispatched to the scene.

Amess, a member of the ruling conservative party of Boris Johnson, represented the Southend West constituency and was first elected to Parliament in 1983 to represent Basildon.

“We have lost a fine civil servant and a dear friend and colleague today,” Johnson said in the interview.

Former devastating British Prime Minister David Cameron called the attack “devastating, horrific and tragic news”.

Former Conservative Party leader Iain Duncan Smith said his thoughts were with his family.

“Shocked to learn that my close friend/colleague has passed away as a result of a desperate attack in his operating room”, he said via Twitter.

British lawmaker Jo Cox was shot dead in 2016 while meeting with voters in an attack that halted the Brexit referendum campaign. (source)
