In these dire times we have to take care of each other!

On website supportdeondernemer.nl you will find an overview of all nurseries and farmers in the Netherlands who have their sales “along the road”.

A nice flower from the nursery or a bag of potatoes directly from the farmer.

Support the entrepreneur!

With hashtags en challenges call on horticultural companies and farmers to continue to buy flowers, potted plants and vegetables from local growers and farmers.

The gardeners themselves put the flowers outside in stalls along the road. Although it is and will remain a drop in the ocean.

Ilze Visser of the Facebook group Fietsenvoormijnbloemen.nl says of the group that more and more people are joining:

'In' Cycling for my flowers' people share the addresses of flower and pot plant stalls in Westland.

'Thousands of people who would like to know where they can get flowers locally, to support the growers. '

'But also gardeners who previously never had a stall along the road, but now start offering their products on the side of the road because they won't lose them. '

De floriculture sector is going through a dramatic time. The corona covid scam has reduced the demand for flowers and plants across Europe. Lots of flowers freaked out, or destroyed.

'Flowers are not seen as a necessity of life, we understand that. You cannot eat them. But that does lead to a huge one drop in demand.', says Michel van Schie, spokesman for FloraHolland.

Flowers are thrown away: 'People stand there with tears in their eyes'

Lotte and Babet van der Meer help their father Dennis van der Meer with the sale of freesias. Normally there are a few buckets of flowers, but now that the flowers are turned they have set up a Drive In.

'Help the grower', is painted in large letters on a sign at Dirk van den Burgweg, on the border of 's-Gravenzande and Hoek van Holland. The daughters of grower Dennis van der Meer have set up a Drive In there. Freesias for 1 € per bunch.

'The production value is 1,60 €. So we don't make a profit, 'says Lotte van der Meer (17), while helping a customer find a new bunch.

"But something is better than nothing."

It is very busy. People drive back and forth. One leaves with one bunch, the other would like him to have longer arms to carry everything. For a moment there was confusion:

'Come and get flowers', it said on social media. As if they were free, but that's not supposed to be.

'You would rather not give it away. Once people have flowers, they won't buy anything for another week, 'says owner Van der Meer. He is happy with his daughters' initiative, but has a lot stress because of the crisis.

'What many people don't understand is that we are in the corner where the blows fall. A buyer can say: I buy a little less a week, later it goes better. We bear all risks. The costs for these flowers have already been made. '

'I lit them, heated them. This crisis costs me 9000 euros a day. '
