State of perception: Fewer young people volunteer

Spread the freedom!

Omvolking has nothing to do with White Supremacy, the extreme right and other nonsense theories that are associated with this word. It is a neat Dutch word to describe the current phenomenon in Europe.

How is this population-related?

It is related because the increasing diversity correlates negatively with the willingness to volunteer. And the Netherlands is becoming ethnically diverse from year to year.

According to Statistics Netherlands, the percentage of young people (15-25 years old) who volunteered has fallen from 49% in 2017 to 45% in 2019.

The percentage of volunteer workers also declined "Volunteering is a duty" as motivation declined from 24% to 22%, as well as the percentage of them who did it “to do something for someone else” (46% to 43%).

Diving deeper into the numbers came up even more:
-Increasing loneliness (less and less contact with friends and family)
-Decrease in political interest, where it is increasingly common than either one "not interested" of "very interested" (growing gap).

Girls in particular indicate that they are not interested (31%, against 21% for boys), while boys are much more often “very interested” (11%, against 6% for girls).
