Princess Margriet's husband and former chair of the Dutch Safety Board Pieter van Vollenhoven believes that extraordinary investigative officers (boas) should be given full equipment with the authority to bear arms. He said this in the radio program This is the Day.
'I understand the appeal of boas for batons and pepper spray, but you can also TAKE ANOTHER STEP FURTHER,' says Van Vollenhoven.
'The boas have taken over many police tasks in the past, they are increasingly becoming a kind of MUNICIPAL POLICE. They encounter RESISTANCE and there is really little they can do. '
Van Vollenhoven thinks it is BETTER to give them a FIREARMS.
"I think eventually we will have to equip them completely."

@PietervVol advocates firearms for boas.
'They are confronted with the same problems as the police, for that you have to fully equip boas', says Pieter van Vollenhoven in @DitisdeDag.
Van Vollenhoven (81) sees that the boas increasingly operate as municipal police:
'The problem is that the police have completely left the neighborhoods, the boa often knows the neighborhoods better than the policeman. We need to rethink the whole concept of police and boas. '
Lawyer Richard Korver says it is a BAD idea to give boas a FULL EQUIPMENT:
'They are not trained for it. In addition, there are NO or HARELY requirements for the boa training. '
On Twitter, Korver therefore openly wonders whether more police officers should not simply be hired ?!

Excuse me professor @PietervVol wouldn't we just hire a few more police officers? Boas do not have the powers and the training, although many police officers also lack the latter! https://twitter.com/NPORadio1/status/1263888210381373441…
